Apple's next major update to iOS will feature an updated Lock Screen, a redesigned Home Screen for iPad, improvements to notifications, and more, reports Bloomberg.

According to the site, Apple will let users set notifications preferences, such as whether the device makes a sound, based on their status. A new menu will let users select from preset or custom statuses. ie driving, working, sleeping, etc. The menu will appear on the updated Lock Screen and in Control Center.

Users will also be able to set automatic replies to messages depending on their status. This improves on the current auto-reply feature which only works while driving. Sources say that Apple is also working on upgrades to iMessage that would make it function more like a social network and compete better with WhatsApp. Those changes are still in the early development stage and could come later.

Another significant improvement in iOS 15 is an update to the Home Screen for iPad.

Following a similar feature for the iPhone introduced last year, Apple plans to let users place widgets -- miniature apps that can display the weather, upcoming appointments, stock tickers and other data -- anywhere on the Home Screen. Users will also be able to replace the entire app grid with only widgets.

New privacy protections in iOS 15 include a menu that will show users which apps are silently collecting data about them.

Sources say the software update is codenamed Sky and will be unveiled at WWDC starting June 7th. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for updates.
