Apple Introduces Entitlements to Allow Dating Apps in the Netherlands to Use Third Party Payment Systems

Apple has introduced two new entitlements that will allow dating apps in the Netherlands to use third party payment systems on the App Store.

To comply with orders from the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), Apple will allow dating app developers in the Netherlands App Store to choose one of the following: 1) continue using Apple’s in-app purchase system, 2) include an in-app link directing customers to the developer’s website to complete a purchase, or 3) use a third party payment system within the app.

The entitlements are only available for apps in the Netherlands so developers will need to submit a separate binary for the Netherlands App Store. Apps will still be forced to pay Apple a commission on transactions but the commission rate has not yet been announced.

StoreKit External Entitlements
● The StoreKit External Purchase Entitlement. This entitlement lets you use a third-party payment system within a dating app on the Netherlands storefront.

● The StoreKit External Link Entitlement. For dating apps on the Netherlands storefront, this entitlement lets you include an in-app link directing users to a website you own or are responsible for to complete a purchase.

As expected, developers will need to assist users with refunds, payment history, and subscription management when using an outside payment method.

Notably, Apple says it is appealing the order from the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for updates.
