Samsung has begun development of two-stack tandem structure OLED panels having two emission layers (EML). The display maker is developing the panels to win orders for Apple's 2024 OLED iPads, reports TheElec.

Having a two-stack structure __ as opposed to the single-stack structure currently manufactured by Samsung Display __ doubles the brightness of the OLED panel while its life span is expected to be quadrupled. Samsung Display has named the material set for the new OLED panels at the T series - the T standing for tandem.

It's believed that Apple plans to bring OLED panels to its MacBook and iMac line of computers as well.

Currently, the OLED panels on iPhones have a single stack structure made from Samsung's M series material set. The new T1 material set could be ready for commercial production in 2023. However, the next T2 material set could be ready for production in 2024 and will likely be the first set of panels used by Apple for its iPad.

TheElec suggests that Samsung will first provide the OLED panels made with T series to Samsung Electronics, demonstrating display leadership to customers and verifying productivity before pitching them to Apple.
