Godfather of the iPod Says Goodbye to Apple

Tony Fadell, one of the creators of the iPod and iPhone, has completely severed his ties with Apple to focus on helping the environment, reports the New York Times.

Fadell first envisioned a hard drive digital music player in the 1990s. After trying to bring the idea to Real Networks, in 2001 he approached Apple. He worked under Jon Rubinstein before he became the head of the iPod division in 2006.

In 2008 he stepped down from his position but remained a special adviser to CEO Steve Jobs.

The New York Times reached Fadell by phone but he declined to talk about Apple saying,

"My primary focus will be helping the environment by working with consumer green-tech companies," he said. "I'm determined to tell my kids and grandkids amazing stories beyond my iPod and iPhone ones."
