Apple is working on a hardware subscription service that would let users pay a monthly fee for iPhone and other devices, according to Bloomberg.

The service would be Apple’s biggest push yet into automatically recurring sales, allowing users to subscribe to hardware for the first time -- rather than just digital services. But the project is still in development, said the people, who asked not to identified because the initiative hasn’t been announced.

Apple has been rapidly expanding into service subscriptions, introducing an Apple One subscription plan that bundles Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, iCloud, Apple News+, and Apple Fitness+. Presumably, a hardware subscription service could operate in similar manner, with users selecting which devices they would like to use. ie iPhone, iPad, MacBook. This could make it easier for customers to stay current with the company's hardware updates, perhaps automatically upgrading them to the latest release.

No word on when Apple could implement such a service but you can download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for updates.
