Apple has likely added Jahwa as a camera module OIS supplier for the 2023 iPhone, according to a new report from TheElec.

Jahwa announced yesterday that it will spend 191 billion won on new facilities to manufacture optical image stabilization (OIS) actuators. The size of the spending plan indicates that Jahwa Electronics has secured a new customer, likely Apple.

As reported by TheElec earlier, Apple visited Jahwa Electronics’ OIS production lines in South Korea during the first half of 2021. As Cupertino conventionally asks its suppliers to build production lines exclusive for itself, Jahwa Electronics’ new facilities will likely supply only to the iPhone maker. The South Korean parts maker will likely begin supplying Apple with OIS actuators during the second quarter of next year.

If Apple is the Jahwa's new customer, it will need to approve the facilities at Gumi before production can begin. The OIS actuators made at the new factory could be used for a periscope telephoto lens that is now rumored to arrive to iPhone in 2023. A periscope lens would allow for improved optical zoom.
