Apple says it stopped nearly $1.5 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions last year in a new press release touting its App Store.

In 2021, Apple protected customers from nearly $1.5 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions, and stopped over 1.6 million risky and vulnerable apps and app updates from defrauding users.

This process is known as sideloading.

Apple has frequently warned of dire consequences if it were to allow users to directly install apps, despite users being able to do so on Mac and most other platforms.
