If you prefer viewing items against a dark background, you can use the Invert Colors accessibility feature to change how content is displayed on your iPhone. This feature may also be useful to users suffering from eye strain, color blindness, or other visual difficulties.

Here's how...

Invert Colors on iPhone

Step One

Tap to open the Settings app from your home screen.

Step Two

Select Accessibility from the Settings menu, then tap Display & Text Size from the accessibility menu.

Step Three

You'll be shown a list of accessibility features that can be enabled, including two ways of enabling inverted colors.

Smart Invert: Smart Invert reverses the colors on the display, except for images, media, and some apps that use dark color styles.

Classic invert: Classic Invert reverses all screen colors on the display.

Switch the Smart Invert or Classic invert toggle to the ON position. Your iPhone screen will display the inverted image immediately. Note that you must choose either smart invert or the classic invert option, you can't have both on at the same time.

Accessibility Shortcut

If you find the color invert option useful but don't want to have it always enabled, you can create an accessibility shortcut to quickly enable smart invert or classic invert.

Step One

Tap to launch the Settings app from your home screen.

Step Two

Select Accessibility from the Settings menu, then tap Accessibility Shortcut.

Step Three

Select Classic Invert or Smart Invert from the Accessibility Shortcut list. Here it's possible to select both options, as well as, other display accommodations.

Step Four

Triple click the Side button on your iPhone to activate the inverted colors shortcut. If you selected both modes in the previous step, triple press the button again to switch between methods of inverting colors.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Smart invert colors produces dark colors somewhat similar to Dark Mode; however, it will also work for applications that don't natively support Dark Mode. If you haven't tried Dark Mode, you can find instructions on how to enable it here:
