Apple has introduced a 'new instrument cluster experience' for CarPlay in iOS 17.4 beta 4. Instrument clusters can now display information about upcoming maneuvers on supported vehicles and users can swap display types between the main and instrument cluster screen.

In iOS 17.4, with supported CarPlay vehicles, Apple Maps will present a new instrument cluster experience with information about upcoming maneuvers. Users will be able to swap the desired display type between the main and instrument cluster screen by tapping the map configuration button on the upper right of the Maps main screen.

In a post on the CarPlay subreddit, user aronyigin shared images of what the update looks like on a Polestar 2.

You can now change between overview and upcoming maneuvers.

Previously, the vehicle would show Apple Maps in the instrument cluster, but would not show maneuvers.

Following the update, you can see upcoming maneuvers in the instrument cluster, potentially making it easier for the driver.

iOS 17.4 will likely be released next month and includes changes for the EU Digital Markets Act and a significant cryptographic security upgrade to iMessage that introduces PQ3, a post-quantum cryptographic protocol that reaches Level 3 security.
