Robotics engineer Ken Pillonel, who previously created the first USB-C AirPods Pro case, has now modified Apple's AirPods Max headphones with USB-C.

This is the World's First USB-C AirPods Max, and you can make them too. The new mod kit hack will help upgrading existing devices, instead of just buying new ones. It is also a great solution for repairability, as replacement parts are very hard to come by and also very expensive.

Pillonel has already made the mod available to order on his shop for CHF 39.90 (around $45 USD). The kit comes with the spacers, microphone holder, and their corresponding pieces of tape. There's also detailed instructions on how to install it. Note that it does not support USB-C wired audio as the handshake hasn't been cracked yet.

Take a look at the video below to see how the USB-C mod was created. Apple is expected to unveil a new version of AirPods Max in late 2024; however, if you can't wait until then, or if you already have AirPods Max, this upgrade is a great option.
