BOE will likely supply display panels for the next generation iPhone SE 4 as Samsung has reportedly withdrawn from negotiations, according to ZDNet Korea.

Apple is planning a major update to the iPhone SE, allegedly equipping it with the same 6.1-inch OLED display as the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. The new device is also rumored to feature the company's first 5G modem.

Sources say that Samsung, BOE, and Tianma all expressed interested in making displays for the device; however, Tianma has yet to meet Apple's technical requirements and Samsung isn't willing to meet Apple's price demands.

Samsung Display, as of mid-this month, is known to have effectively withdrawn from entering the supply chain for OLED panels for the iPhone SE4. The biggest reason is the price. Samsung Display proposed a panel price level of $30, compared to the Chinese company's ($35-$40). However, Apple is reported to have demanded a lower price of $25.

An industry insider explained, "Due to pricing issues, Samsung Display had little intention from the start to supply panels for the iPhone SE4," and "Apple is also trying to reduce its dependency on Samsung Display in the iPhone supply chain."

Currently, estimates peg the shipment volume of the iPhone SE 4 to be around 15 million units; however, it's unclear when Apple plans to launch the device. In the meanwhile, check out these iPhone SE 4 renders that purportedly reveal the device's design.
