Apple may be preparing to update the Notes app for iOS 18 with integrated Voice Memos and Math Notes, according to a new rumor from AppleInsider.

Among its new features will be audio recording support built in at the application level, similar to integrated Voice Memos, according to people familiar with the matter. The feature is currently under development for iOS 18 and macOS 15 and should ultimately make its way to the new version of iPadOS as well. We were told that early pre-release versions of the operating systems also make reference to a new feature dubbed "Math Notes" that will allow the new versions of Notes to leverage and communicate with Apple's Calculator application.

The new audio recording feature will purportedly allow users to record, save, and play audio recordings from the Notes app. The recordings will be embedded within individual notes and will utilize an interface that is very similar to the Voice Memos application already available on iOS.

The 'Math Notes' features will allegedly give users the ability to integrate information from the Calculator app. It's likely to support displaying proper mathematic notation, similar to the capabilities of Microsoft OneNote. Users will reportedly be able to open Math Notes from the Calculator app via a dedicated option or button.

Apple should unveil the first beta of iOS 18 at its WWDC 2024 developer conference in June. You can download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for full coverage of the event.
