Ryan Petrich Ports Google Maps to iOS 6 [Video]

Ryan Petrich, the popular iOS hacker and developer, today announced that he has successfully ported Google Maps (iOS 5 version) to iOS 6.

Petrich is quick to note that he still faces a redistribution issue since the trick involves some older iOS binaries that are not redistributable. The trick does involve a jailbreak, so if Petrich were to bypass the legalities of this port, one would first have to be publicly released.

Still crashy and cannot be distributed to the public yet, but it mostly works :)

If this port were to be released, it would help alleviate some of the problems users are facing with the new Maps app. iOS 6 has already been jailbroken by chpwn but there is no word yet on when or whether the jailbreak will be released.

I've got to say, the biggest complaint about the new Maps app is that it's search feature is flawed, but this has ALWAYS been true. I've never been able to get it to find my house, even using the "use current address". Usually you have to copy the address from your contact list to getit to work. (I'll admit though, I haven't used iOS 6 yet.

the only thing I'll miss in maps is street view. oh no, walking directions are gone! big deal you have a frigging map

This is a waste of time. He's better of doing something else rather then porting google maps to iOS 6. Google will eventually release google maps.
