AllThingsD says it's confirmed with sources that Apple will hold an event on September 12th at which the company will likely unveil the new iPhone.

iMore was first to report that the company has scheduled a special event for Wednesday, September 12, and now we've confirmed it as well. Sources tell AllThingsD that Apple is currently planning an event for that week. And while we haven't yet confirmed its focus, history suggests it will indeed be the new iPhone.

The site which is part of the WSJ Network has been very accurate with its predictions in the past. They also note that according to Apple's latest 10-Q filing, prepayment for inventory components rose $1.15 billion sequentially in the June quarter, reaching 12.6% of total sales, the highest level its been at in four years. This would suggest Apple has major updates ahead.
