Apple's proposal to open a retail store in Grand Central Terminal is expected to be approved as early as next week, according to the New York Times.

When Apple proposed opening a store on the balcony overlooking the main hall, it submitted its bid in linen-lined boxes, as if it were a wedding present to transit officials, a source familiar with the application process said. The board is expected to approve the deal as early as next week, at its monthly board meeting.

Apple plans for a Grand Central Terminal store have been rumored several times since February. In May, celebrity chef Charlie Palmer's Métrazur revealed plans to close his restaurant on July 1 even though his lease ran until 2019 and the eatery was doing "quite well." Metrazur was reportedly paid a large amount of money to vacate his lease, possibly by Apple. "It's an offer that's hard to refuse," said Mr. Palmer, who declined to put a number on it. "It's hard to compete with whatever that company might be that's taking the space."
