Facebook to Launch iPad App and New iPhone App at October Apple Event?

Facebook is planning to launch its iPad app and a new iPhone app at an October 4th Apple event, says Mashable.

Earlier today, a blog post by former Facebook engineer Jeff Verkoeyen revealed that the iPad app has been 'feature complete' since May.

Mashable reports that the problem preventing its release has been the combination of timing and a strained relationship with Apple. However, the relationship between the two may be warming up due to the shared goal of beating Google. The report also echoes comments made by TechCrunch earlier today, suggesting that the two companies may be working together on a HTML5 platform, known as "Project Spartan" to some.

What we're hearing is that Apple is actually working with Facebook on perfecting the HTML5 platform. This could also launch at Apple's upcoming iPhone event, though our sources wouldn't commit to a specific launch date for the platform. Facebook decided not to launch it at f8, as it didn't want to water down the announcement of the new Facebook Open Graph and Timeline.

The platform would allow Facebook developers to bring their apps to the iPhone via HTML5.
