Apple will reportedly double the max build-to-order RAM configurations for the new Mac mini and possibly the new iMac, reports 9to5Mac.

Currently, 4GB sticks of RAM are the largest you can select when purchasing the Mac mini and iMac through Apple. This means a max of 16GB of RAM for the iMac and 8GB of RAM for the Mac mini.

If Apple begins to offer 8GB sticks of RAM that would allow customers to configure the iMac with 32GB of RAM and the Mac mini with 16GB of RAM.

Apple is expected to update the Mac mini and iMac at its October 23rd event.
