Apple Pay has launched in Canada for users with an American Express credit card. The mobile payments solution will be available at popular locations including: Tim Hortons, Indigo, McDonald’s, Petro Canada and Staples.
“Canadian consumers love their smartphones, and they’ve been hearing about mobile payments but have been waiting for a secure and seamless way to do that,” Suat Alaybeyoglu, American Express Canada’s vice president of consumer acquisition and management, said.
“When you look at seamless user experiences, that’s one thing that Apple Pay is known for.”
Moneris, the largest payment processor in Canada servicing more than 350,000 merchant locations, says that 85 per cent of its terminals currently in use today are contactless-capable and able to accept the Apple Pay tap.
"With Apple Pay, Canadians now have another seamless and secure choice for how they want to pay, said Angela Brown, CEO, Moneris Solutions. "We are ready and excited to make those purchases happen."
As part of its deal with AMEX, Apple Pay will launch in Australia later this week.
