Apple plans to introduce a revamped design for Apple Music which will feature a black and white user interface with huge album artwork, reports 9to5Mac. Earlier today Bloomberg revealed that Apple will likely introduce design changes to Apple Music at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
The new version of Apple Music has been in the pipeline since the end of last year with work ramping up at the end of February. While the focus is on a redesigned interface, but there's also some new functions, reorganization, and simplification of features.
The new user-interface ditches the current colorful and translucent look in favor of a simpler design that emphasizes black and white backgrounds and text. For instance, the user interface in the albums view will no longer change in appearance based on the color of a particular album’s art. While the new interface will eschew color in the user-interface, album artwork will become “huge” and a larger part of the interface in order to avoid a dull black and white look, according to people who have seen the updated Apple Music service.
Additionally, the interface will make use of more 3D Touch shortcut previews and better promote the ability to share songs.
A source who saw the new design says the focus on artwork makes it look 'bolder, yet simpler'. Apple will use its new San Francisco font for the app and is even said to be updating nearly all its applications, operating systems, marketing materials, websites, and online services to the font this year.
The 'New' tab will reportedly be replaced with a 'Browse' tab which offers better organization of content. Apple will also emphasize the 'For You' tab which makes personalized content recommendations.
As part of its revamp, Apple is working with song labels to integrate lyrics into Apple Music. This will be a gradual rollout but a 'good amount' of songs will include lyrics at relaunch.
The refreshed version of Apple Music will be released alongside iOS 10 this fall; however, developers should get it earlier via the public betas of iOS 10, codenamed 'Whitetail'.
