Intel to Supply Up To 50% of Modems for the iPhone 7?

Intel will reportedly supply up to 50% of modems for the new iPhone 7 slated for launch in September, according to DigiTimes sources.

Intel will itself package the modem chips for the upcoming new iPhones, but have contracted Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and tester King Yuan Electronics (KYEC) to manufacture the chips, the sources said.

Currently, Qualcomm is the supplier of LTE modems for the iPhone; however, Intel has been rumored to be added to the supply chain for quite some time. Back in March an analyst at CLSA Securities said the company had secured orders for a "significant portion" of the cellular LTE modems for Apple's next-generation iPhone.
