Apple has requested samples of wireless charging chips from suppliers for use in an iPhone case, reports the Economic Daily News via DigiTimes.

The company is said to have issued a request for quotation (RFQ) to MediaTek.

The paper noted that Apple is likely to start creating peripherals such as cases, to try out wireless charging technology for the iPhone. In addition to MediaTek, NXP and IDT will also send out samples to Apple for testing.

Although today's report says Apple is looking for chips to create a case, there have been reports that the 2017 iPhone will include wireless charging capabilities. We've heard rumors that Apple's implementation of wireless charging will work long-range but details have been scarce.
