Foxconn is making and testing wireless charging modules for the next generation iPhone, according to a new report from Nikkei.
"But whether the feature can eventually make it into Apple's updated devices will depend on whether Foxconn can boost the yield rate to a satisfactory level later on," says their source.
While new wireless charging modules are intended for next year's iPhone. It is unclear if all models will come with that function.
The introduction of wireless charging capabilities is part of Apple's ongoing efforts to overhaul the iPhone design to boost sales during the 10th anniversary of its ubiquitous and iconic device that had transformed mobile internet and communications since the release of its first incarnation. For now, the new model has been widely dubbed iPhone 8, although Apple may christen it differently given the special occasion of its launch.
Nikkei previously predicted that Apple would launch three different iPhone models next year. All three are said to feature a glass back but only one is expected to get an OLED display.
We've been hearing reports for some time that the 10th anniversary iPhone will be a major update. It will purportedly have a front glass cover and chassis, joined by a metal bezel and an edge-to-edge display that has no bezels on the top and bottom. Additionally, the front camera, Touch ID, speaker, and other sensors will apparently be embedded into the display. A more recent report claimed that the device would be a clear piece of glass with a next-generation OLED screen.
