Apple Poaches Designer Andrew Kim From Tesla

Apple has hired designer Andrew Kim away from Tesla. Kim worked as a senior manager of design at Tesla for the past two years. Prior to that he worked as a senior designer of HoloLens and New Devices at Microsoft.

According to Instagram, Kim's first day at Apple was December 10th. His hire has once again ignited rumors that Apple may be working on an actual vehicle. Last year, Kim said his focus at Tesla was designing the cabin space of the Model 3 and his move to Apple comes just a few months after the company rehired Doug Field, the former head of Tesla Model 3 production.

Kim and Ford are not the only employees to move from Tesla to Apple this year. In August, CNBC reported that Apple had hired at least 46 former Tesla employees.

In 2018 so far, LinkedIn data shows Apple has hired at least 46 people who worked at Tesla directly before joining the consumer electronics juggernaut. Eight of these were engineering interns. This year Apple has also hired former Tesla Autopilot, QA, Powertrain, mechanical design and firmware engineers, and several global supply chain managers. Some employees joined directly from Tesla, while others had been dismissed or laid off before joining Apple.
