Apple AirTag Tracker May Use Removable CR2032 Battery [Report]

Apple's leaked AirTag tracker may feature a removable CR2032 battery similar to the Tile Pro, reports MacRumors.

Based on a prototype of the tag, removing and replacing the battery will require unscrewing the back cover and performing a counter-clockwise twisting motion. The new battery must be inserted with the plus sign facing up.

Initially, users will need to pull a tab on the AirTag to connect the battery and then bring it near an iPhone or iPad to pair the tracker.

The site says that this information is based on a prototype of the tracker and notes that last month reports suggested the AirTag could be waterproof and use magnetic charging similar to Apple Watch. AirTags are also rumored to use ultra-wideband technology for improved positioning accuracy when paired with an iPhone 11.

Previous reports have suggested that AirTags could launch in the first half of 2020; however, the coronavirus outbreak may have delayed Apple's release schedule this year.
