Pre-orders for Apple's new iPhone 12 are estimated to be twice as high as pre-orders for last year's iPhone 11, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a new research note, Kuo says that pre-orders in the first 24 hours reached between 1.7 - 2 million for the iPhone 12 compared to 500 - 800 thousand for the iPhone 11. The analyst notes that iPhone 6 received around 4 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours; however, Apple has yet to open pre-orders for the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Kuo also notes that the split skewed more towards the higher-end iPhone 12 Pro than expected. Current predictions for the overall split now look like this:

● iPhone 12 mini: 10-15%
● iPhone 12: 30-35%
● iPhone 12 Pro: 30-35%
● iPhone 12 Pro Max: 15-20%

Demand for the iPhone 12 mini may be lower due to its lack of support for dual SIMs, a feature which is popular in China.
