In a tweet posted today, Elon Musk revealed that he reached out to Tim Cook to discuss selling Tesla to Apple, but Cook refused to take the meeting.

During the darkest days of the Model 3 program, I reached out to Tim Cook to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla (for 1/10 of our current value). He refused to take the meeting.

The tweet follows an article from Reuters which claims Apple is developing a passenger vehicle with a production target of 2024. The site says Apple is working on next generation battery technology with a unique “monocell” design that bulks up the individual cells in the battery and frees up space inside the battery pack.

Addressing the article, Musk says:

---
Strange, if true.

- Tesla already uses iron-phosphate for medium range cars made in our Shanghai factory.

- A monocell is electrochemically impossible, as max voltage is ~100X too low. Maybe they meant cells bonded together, like our structural battery pack?
