Apple is set to use Tesla battery packs for grid-scale energy storage at its North California solar farm, reports The Verge.

The company is constructing one of the largest battery projects in the country, California Flats — capable of storing 240 megawatt-hours of energy, enough to power over 7,000 homes for one day. This project will support the 130-megawatt solar farm that provides all of Apple's renewable energy in California, by storing excess energy generated during the day and deploying it when it is most needed.

Apple will use 85 Tesla lithium-ion “megapacks” to help power it's corporate headquarters in Cupertino. Monterey County's planning chief confirmed the use of Tesla's batteries in an email. The setup will be cable of storing 60MW, slightly smaller than the 100MW Tesla storage solutions in Australia and Texas.
