iPad Delayed a Week Due to Software, Not Hardware?

Analysts believe that a small delay in release of the iPad is due to hardware production problems; however, it may actually be due to software.

Yesterday analysts at Think Equity said checks with Taiwan indicated some slight delays in the gearing up in production of the iPad.

Their report corroborated an earlier one by Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek who believed a production problem at a Hon Hai Precision plant could limit the iPad launch to the USA or even delay the launch for a month.

Today Apple announced that the iPad would ship April 3rd, a week later then expected.

John Gruber from Daring Fireball believes this slight delay is actually due to software, not hardware.

My sources suggest that Misek is wrong. It was the software, not the hardware, that took a week or two longer to finish than they’d hoped. Nothing extraordinary or unusual, just the usual hard-to-predict timing of turning software that’s almost ready to ship into software that’s ready to ship. In the grand history of major OS release date slips, one week is pretty tame.
