Apple is expanding the number of suppliers of AiP substrates for its new mmWave iPhones, according to a DigiTimes report.

Apple reportedly has enlisted AT&S as a new supplier of BT-based AiP (antenna in package) substrates for new 5G mmWave iPhones to be released later in the year, expanding to five the number of suppliers of the substrates, according to industry sources. The Austria-based maker, long a supplier of SLP (substrate-like PCB) mainboards and SiP (system in package) substrates for iPhones and other Apple devices, will join Semco, LG Innotek, Kinsus Interconnect Technology and Unimircon Technology to supply BT AiP substrates for the upcoming 5G mmWave iPhones, the sources said.

According to the site, 60% of Apple's new 2021 iPhone lineup will feature 5G mmWave support. Each device will require four AiP modules, driving up demand for the substrates. Orders will be equally split between the five suppliers.

The 'iPhone 13' is widely rumored to feature a redesigned camera assembly and a smaller notch with the earpiece moved up into the bezel. Check out this video for a closer look at the design.

The 'iPhone 13 Pro' and 'iPhone 13 Pro Max' models will allegedly feature an upgraded ultra-wide camera with autofocus. The current iPhone 12 models have a fixed focus lens. Additionally, Apple is expected to equip some new models with a 120Hz display.
