Kuo Questions Rumored iPhone 14 Order Cut

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has doubts about a recent rumor that claims Apple has reduced its initial iPhone 14 order by 10%.

In a post on Twitter, Kuo says:

1. Rumored TSMC's iPhone 14 orders cut by 10% is not aligned with my survey. I currently maintain my 2H22 shipment forecast for iPhone 14, about 100 mn and 90 mn units for components and EMS, respectively.

2. Apple's slight adjustments for iPhone shipment forecasts (single-digit increase/decrease) are common, including new models before mass production.

3. Apple doesn't usually markedly change shipment forecasts for new iPhones (double-digit increase/decrease) before launching new models and confirming the actual market demand/feedback.

4. If a supply chain issue causes a significant change in the shipment plan of the new iPhones before mass production, Apple usually postpones the orders instead of cutting them.

5. The above also applies to Apple's other products.

Previously, Kuo said deposits to secure supply of the iPhone 14 in China were significantly higher than for the iPhone 13, indicating an increase in demand, not decrease.

Apple is widely expected to unveil four new iPhone 14 models this fall including an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It's believed the iPhone 14 Pro will get an A16 processor, a 'pill + hole' cutout design, a 48MP wide camera, a larger camera bump, an autofocus selfie camera, and rounder corners. The iPhone 14 is expected to keep the A15 processor and current notch.
