Apple Signs Deal with Samsung for Production of A9 Chip?

Apple has signed a deal with Samsung for production of its A9 chips on the 14 nanometer process starting in 2015, according to the Korea Economic Daily.

Strangely, the news comes after it was revealed that TSMC would be producing A-series chips for Apple starting in 2014.

Samsung Electronics had supplied the AP [application processor] to Apple since 2007 but lost the contract to supply 20 nano AP A8 chips to Apple to Taiwan's TSMC last year when it was engaged in patent disputes with Apple. Samsung Electronics developed state-of-the-art 14 nano models ahead of its rival TSMC, regaining the order from Apple.

The TSMC deal was reported as a three-year deal covering A8, A9, A9X chips so it's unclear if both companies will be producing the A9 chips or whether Apple is already making a move back to Samsung.

Notably, a recent report claims that Apple has bought into a chip fab and is looking to eventually produce their own chips.

Now this is what will keep Apple customers in staying with the brand instead of switching to android Devices in the fall. The release of the next iPhone after iPhone 5 will require the kind of jump innovation that can separate Apple cellphones from anything else the world may offer. Give me what I want, new not same old !

Apple will just end up suing Samsung again for something Samsung did first, full circle. Samsung will bitch and Apple will bitch and all you will cry and bicker, but Samsung will hold the title for 'engineering champions' while Apple will still hold the crown for 'dumbest users'.
