Analysts: Sapphire Display to be Exclusive to High-end iPhone 6 Models

When the first stress tests of the purported sapphire front display for the iPhone 6 surfaced, many were excited and anxious to finally have a nearly indestructible front screen on their iPhone. However, according to an analyst from JPMorgan Securities Ltd, Apple does not have enough sapphire to satisfy the demand for the iPhone 6. As a result, the sapphire display could be limited to high-end iPhone 6 models only.

“Sapphire covers will also be restricted to high-end iPhones, possibly the 128GB [gigabyte] ones,” the brokerage said in the report.

JPMorgan says that Apple only has enough sapphire to produce about 10 million iPhones, which is not nearly enough to meet the demand that the iPhone 6 is seeing. It is possible that the sapphire display will be limited to the 5.5-inch model, and the 4.7-inch model will use gorilla glass instead, as previous reports indicated. The analysts also believe Apple's iPhone 6 could spark smartphone-sapphire adoption.

The iPhone 6 is expected to be announced this September and could launch in both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen sizes. Rumors point to an improved processor, an all new design, an improved camera, and more.

the only problem with your prediction is that Apple are making the crystal themselves, they bought the factory and are in the process of expending it.

Doesn't make sense at all. If they are short they should not use sapphire at all . Will piss off a lot of people.

I have absolutely no problem with that, all that matters to me really is the 128GB space, I keep running out of space on my 64GB 5S but my iPad mini still has over 61GB of free space still, but it would be useful to have everything on my iPhone instead because I take that with me a lot more than the iPad (I can't trust online cloud space with vital info/data which is why the internal space is more important to me)
