Daring Fireball's John Gruber has hinted that the upcoming iPhone 6 will feature NFC support and a secure enclave that would store credit card information. He also suggests that the iWatch may as well.
Earlier this month, Gruber said that Apple would be announcing a wearable device in September. After the statement was picked up by the press he pulled back alleging that the prediction was just a joke. Now it appears that his 'joke' was not a joke and Apple is really planning to unveil a wearable device on September 9th.
Today Gruber continued with his 'jokes' corroborating multiple reports that the iPhone 6 will support NFC and feature a secure enclave for sensitive information.
I’ve been working on a new joke — about NFC and a new secure enclave where you can store your credit cards, so you can pay for things at brick and mortar retail stores just by taking out your iPhone, but only if it’s one of the new iPhones — but no one seems to get my sense of humor.
Gruber also suggests the iWatch may have payment capabilities as well.
Follow-up joke: It would be cool, and would make a lot of sense, if the new wearable thing had the same magic payment apparatus.
