BigBoss has outlined a method to potentially disable EDGE for those on iPhone OS 3.0.
These steps are still being tested; so please let BigBoss know if you have any problems. Once the procedure has been confirmed it will be integrated into the SBSettings toggle.
1) Open settings app and disable Notifications. These appear directly under carrier, if you have them. They only appear if you have installed an appstore app that requires push. If you dont have these, skip this step.
2) Disable push mail fetch.
3) Disable EDGE using SBSettings
4) Load settings app, enable airplane mode. Wait at least 10 seconds.
5) Load settings app and disable airplane mode. Wait for you to get service again.
6) Load SBSettings. You should have no Data IP (IP N/A).
7) Try using safari on Data. It should fail. Wait a bit, Load SBSettings your data IP should remain N/A.
thank you for your efforts in helping iphone users.
I have iphone 3g v 3.0.1. I have tried big boss's method, but it didn't work. I have jailbreaked and unlock my iphone. I have also disabled push mail, notifications. the EDGE in SBSetting is disabled but the EDGE sign is still showing and the internet is still working.
i have dounloaded ultra snow, but it did not solve the problem.
please help me with that.
what is "Data IP" shown in SBSettings ?
When I am on WiFi on a home router I can see 3 diffrenet IP assigned ?
1. local (private)
2. external (public)
3. data (private)
Why not call your carrier and disable the data or simply do it yourself using Apples free profile tool. Works everytime. ( Don't apply carrier updates in iTunes :P )
1. Some people travel with their iPhone and buy SIM cards from foreign providers that have data enabled and charge big time for it. So, disabling data makes sense.
2. Some people use iPhone as a pocket computer with Wi-Fi access.
Don't publicly show your ignorance, buddy.
