Uber has announced that it will start charging riders if their driver has to wait over 2 minutes for them to get into the car.
The news comes in a slew of updates announced today that are designed to help drivers.
Your time is valuable, so it’s frustrating when riders run late or cancel when you’re already at the pickup location. We’ve been trying something new: paying drivers for wait times that exceed two minutes. In the cities where we’ve been testing this, we’ve seen that riders are more likely to be prompt. We’ll be expanding the policy to a dozen U.S. cities this month, with more coming soon.
It's unclear how this decision will fair with customers who often are the ones waiting for drivers. Let us know what you think in the comments!
Uber also announced Driver Destinations. Twice a day, drivers can input their destination – say if you’re heading to work in the morning or going home after a long day — and Uber will only send trip requests that are on the way.
Other announcements include a new Pause feature that lets drivers stop new requests from coming in while they’re on their last trip. The expansion of Instant Pay to all of the USA, Uber Greenlight Locations, Ride Discounts, and more.

It's bad business to force riders to rush...I can understand if the wait time was 5 minutes or more but 2 minutes really makes the rider a liability instead of an asset, not a good look Uber.

What happens if we wait for the driver 5-10 minutes or sometimes more. Uber is turning into a poorly managed company. Uber was great when it started service 3-5 years ago.
