NVIDIA revealed plans today to establish a complete manufacturing ecosystem for its AI supercomputers within the United States, a significant step involving major industry partners. The initiative aims to build these powerful systems end-to-end on American soil for the first time.

The company announced a collaboration with key manufacturers, commissioning over a million square feet of new factory space. Production of NVIDIA's Blackwell architecture chips has reportedly already begun at partner TSMC's facility in Phoenix, Arizona. This is a crucial first step in the domestic supply chain.

Further down the line, NVIDIA says it will set up supercomputer manufacturing plants in Texas. Foxconn will operate a facility in Houston, while Wistron will manage another in Dallas. Mass production at these Texas sites is expected to ramp up within the next 12 to 15 months.

Recognizing the complexity of the AI hardware supply chain, NVIDIA is also partnering with Amkor and SPIL for essential chip packaging and testing operations, which will also be located in Arizona. This keeps critical backend processes geographically close to chip fabrication.

NVIDIA has ambitious targets, aiming to produce up to half a trillion dollars worth of AI infrastructure in the U.S. over the next four years through these partnerships. The move involves companies like TSMC, Foxconn, Wistron, Amkor, and SPIL deepening their collaboration with NVIDIA and expanding their US footprint, contributing to supply chain resilience amidst ongoing global trade discussions and efforts to onshore critical manufacturing.

These AI supercomputers form the core of specialized data centers NVIDIA refers to as "AI factories," designed specifically for processing artificial intelligence workloads. The company anticipates tens of large-scale "gigawatt AI factories" being constructed in the coming years. This domestic manufacturing push is projected to generate significant economic activity and job creation.

"The engines of the world's AI infrastructure are being built in the United States for the first time," stated Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. He added, "Adding American manufacturing helps us better meet the incredible and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthens our supply chain and boosts our resiliency."

NVIDIA also plans to leverage its own technologies, including the NVIDIA Omniverse platform for creating digital twins of the factories and its Isaac GR00T robotics foundation models to potentially automate manufacturing processes within these new facilities.
