Apple is only giving away free cases for the iPhone 4 until September 30th leading some to speculate that the company plans a more permanent attenuation fix by then.
When asked about this date by Bloomberg, Steve Jobs said its so we can reevaluate this in September, I have no idea what solutions may come up.
Given how simple the fix the seems to be (ie duct tape, nail polish, awrapforthat) we don't understand why Apple doesn't simply apply an electrically insulating organic hydrophobic layer atop the antenna.
Unfortunately, even with all the technically savvy reporters present, this question wasn't asked during the Q&A. There have been several online reports from users who believe their replacement iPhone already has this coating; however, the authenticity of these reports has yet to be verified.
Perhaps Apple prefers an internal fix than an external one that could wear off. For now all you can do is wait in line for your free bumper.

I'm not a fan of titles that end with question marks. Does this mean the report about Apple fixing the iPhone 4 is just a rumor?

Actually, the question mark clearly denotes that the information is currently a rumor. If you prefer to avoid rumors then it is best to avoid clicking on articles with a question mark in the title.

Apple should give a free bumper inside the iphone 4 box, the same way nintendo wii gave protectors because people were complaining about throwing away and damaging the wii motes. If they had do that at the beginning most of the people would use the bumper since the beginning and less people would notice the reception problem. My personal and humble opinion.

It's a business I'm sure they wouldn't make a statement without giving a date. It can't go on indefinitely. Potential buyers of after sept 30th will have all the facts by then something current buyers didn't.
way too much drama over something so small as a phone.

Actually it's a flaw in the phone which requires the bumper to be rectified. So it should always come with the bumper until the flaw is fixed.
