Apple may break away from its typical one year product cycle and release a new iPad with a FaceTime camera before the holidays, according to an AppleInsider report.
The site has learned from a source that an iPad with a built-in video camera has already progressed to the advanced testing stages.
Although Apple's historical product cycles would beg to differ, that person familiar with the company's plans claims that as of last month, there was an ambitious push inside Apple to verify the refresh for a possible launch ahead of this year's holiday shopping season.
Many were surprised when Apple released the iPad that it did not feature a camera; especially considering the frame had a spot for one. Perhaps Apple was unable to finish its FaceTime technology in time for the initial launch.
Not BS in my opinion. Facetime on the iPad is almost a certainty on the next refresh (2011 Q1). The iPad needs to catch up with the functionality of the iphone and popping a camera in there is one of the easiest ways of doing that. IMO
Of course it is inevitable but they JUST got the production configured to keep up with demand. I find it HIGHLY unlikely that a new ipad is coming out soon. The next version will certainly have facetime and the retina display. I am sure that this post's conjecture is correct but the timing is not.
