Changes in Rogers cellphone plans are coming within the next two weeks as the company plans for the release of the iPhone, according to the National Post.
Rogers president and chief operating officer Nadir Mohamed made these remarks during his keynote address at the Canadian Telecom Summit: "There's a recognition on the part of Rogers that the world has changed," Mr. Mohamed said. "We'll be changing our prices to reflect that."
"We're looking at pricing changes that will be more flexible, easy to understand and most importantly, drive the adoption of mobile broadband."
Rogers now earns about $63 in average revenue per user. Mr. Mohamed estimated the iPhone will bring in about $90 per user.
"We're on a technology path that is delivering more and more to the customer," he remarked.
Rogers is often called 'Robbers' in Canada. If Ted's (Rogers) CEO mouthpiece is estimating a 30% increase in per user revenue, you can be sure the iPhone rates will be another ripoff. (That comment about investing billions to upgrade their infrastructure is another perversion of reality. The only thing accurate would be the select area (e.g. the least expense to exploit the greatest number.)
Rogers will unlikely be one of the few countries in the world that will ruin the iPhone rollout.
I'll be buying mine elsewhere and will rely on the unlockers to level the playing field in Canada. Hopefully we will be able to continue 'sticking it to the man'.
