An AT&T customer service rep says Apple has informed the company that there will be no new iPhone models released in June/July, according to a MacRumors forum member. The individual contacted AT&T to inquire about why his upgrade eligibility was pushed back for several months.
Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe, though there will be a newer version in the future. Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our website when it is available to us.
Typically customer services representatives don't have access to this type of information; however, this does align with previous reports.
I qualify for a full upgrade on 6/25/2011, I bought the iPhone 4 on launch day, 6/24/2011. So there's some other reason why this guy isn't qualifying for the upgrade. AT&T treats upgrades differently based on monthly plan, how long you've been a customer, and if you've paid your bills on time.
I know for a fact that there was no internal communication of any sort in regards to the new iPhone release. This customer service rep is full of shit.
Iv also heard that it is coming out in november. These guys dnt work for apple but manufactor components etc for the iphone. They said its release will be in november time
I agree. I have access to every resource that AT&T has, and there has been no communication like this. Standard upgrade eligibility is 20 months from last contract sign unless the MRC exceeds $100, It is then 12 months with good payment history. When a new iPhone is launched, the billing system is swept, and everyone that purchased an iPhone within 3 months of the previous launch gets an accelerated upgrade eligibility. Since this hasn't happened yet, the above customer must have lowered his/her rate plans or features and thus changed the upgrade eligibility. As far as the iPhone 5 launch, rumors and speculation are usually right. I suspect a launch somewhere between September and November, simply due the extra time Apple's R&D spent over the last year to launch a CDMA (Verizon) iPhone and to launch the White iPhone 4. Apple also needs to give more time for the White iPhone to cover their heightened costs of development.
