FBR Capital Markets predicts the iPhone 5 will begin production in Q3 featuring an 8MP camera and a Qualcomm CDMA-GSM chip, according to PCWorld.
In a research note, FBR says they expect about about 20 million iPhones will be produced in the third quarter with the iPhone 5 accounting for about 8 million of those.
OmniVision is predicted to be the supplier of an 8 megapixel CMOS sensor with Sony being a possible backup supplier.
Apple is said to be using integrated CDMA-GSM communication chips from Qualcomm for the upcoming device.
"Our contacts have confirmed to us that Qualcomm is replacing Intel as the baseband supplier, selling an integrated CDMA/WCDMA baseband," FBR wrote.
Yesterday the next generation iPhone's release date was pegged at November 21st by an unconfirmed source.
In other words, they can sell one model line that works on both Verizon and AT&T. The million-dollar question is whether or not it will come LTE-ready.
Nah, the iphone isn't ready for LTE. The battery consumption is just not there yet plus ATT isn't going to be fully LTE ready before release.
Heck, the gsm/cdma combo would be surprising itself (though I had said that was most likely as companies likes 1 manufacturing process). That will be interesting to see how it handles battery consumption.
