The new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus can be charged much faster by using an iPad charging adapter rather than the iPhone charging adapter included with the device, according to tests by iLounge and MacRumors forum member 2IS.
Using a Kill-A-Watt device and examining OS X system information, we can see that the charging profile of the new iPhones match that of the iPad. This allows them to charge using 2.1A. Earlier iPhone models would only draw 5W, no matter the charger used.
Initial tests found that iPhone 6 Plus could be charged in about two hours using the iPad adapter.

I confirm that ipad charger does charge iphone faster than using provided iphone charger.
after draining the battery out first time, I plugged in the ith ipad charger which I use for every iOS devices, I find my iphone 6 was fully charged after about 2 hour. I thought my battery was faulty as it was charged so fast.
After a while the battery won't hold power for long. This is old news. I've been doing this trick for years. I only use it when I need to charge my phone faster. Don't rely on it if you want to keep your battery healthy
According to the bottom image, the iPhone 5s sees an additional 500 mA with the 2.1A charger; whereas, the iPhone 6 sees an additional 1600mA. That's a significant difference from the iPhone 5s to the iPhone 6.
Yeah that's quite reasonable. It's also highly probable the charging manufacturers had more spare chargers on the lower spec amp value- tut tut Apple for selling us your spare inappropriate components that cost us in efficiency. Luckily I knew about how to determine the appropriate charger for my device.
Well they are claiming that if you charge the iPhone 5s and below on the iPad charger, it'll still charge slower because the older iPhones are programmed to not charge at the higher rate but that the iPhone 6 and 6 plus are programmed to allow the higher charge rate to work with them. I don't think this is true because I've been using my iPhone 5s on my iPad charger and it seems to charge faster on it. Could be because it's jailbroken and I have the battery life tweek on it and it shows me that it's getting more mah than the regular charger.
It seems like the difference is that the iPhone 6 may actually support that profile. i.e. there isn't a risk of damaging the device by using an inappropriate charger.
No duh. I owned an iPad and iPhone and got that idea myself. But since since it's mentioned, I will point out putting it in airplane mode will do much more better.
