GeoHot has posted an update to the purplera1n jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS.
Improvements: - Vista, Windows 7, International, 64-bit support - Less flakiness in the payload - Cydia tar cleaned up - Improved logging with slightly more useful errors - New kernel patches, codesign errors gone. Props posixninja - Added vm_map +x, passed vm_check - No winterboard yet, but now that ball is in Saurik's court :-)
You can find instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS using purplera1n here
Is this sucking the juice out of anyone else's battery on their 3g S? Ever since I installed this jailbreak it has sucked the juice out of my battery, even if i'm not touching it and it's just sitting there. Does anyone know how to fix this issue...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
To be quite honest, I really can understand why Dev-Team decided not to release their's, but also I see why Geohotz decided to release his.
Well I did have a bit of a headache brewing when jailbreaking with this. BUT, to be quite honest, just knowing that my phone is no longer bound by apple limitation that it was a few ago, makes me actually feel better. I have been testing all of the apps that I used to use on my 3g on 2.2.1. and they work. Except for winterboard. But to be quite honest, for me, winterboard was just a huge headache. Themes upon themes that are awesome come out and I want them all. So screw that for now, it just causes me to take up space on the system.
Cracked IPAs work almost flawlessly. Actually, they do. The only one I had problems with was the actually IPA installer. Not the IPAs. They still sink to itunes. Works great.
Overall this jailbreak means different things to different people.
And to keep the 'honesty' and respectiveness in the jailbreaking world, I don't think that anyone that is thanking GeoHotz while bashing the Dev-Team and vis a vis, Should. We are all thankful to all of them, and we very much so should be because we damn sure weren't going to sit down for 20hrs out of the day just to find these possibilities. Each side has their purpose for what they are doing, let them do it in peace and be thankful for when we do get the jailbreaks. And besides, THIS IS BETA!!!! Hint Hint! Testing! The ones using it are testing it, so lay off the bashin'.
We are lucky they don't want to make us pay for their hard ass work.
Thanks to both the Dev-Team for their continued intellectual in making my phone FUN, which all of them should be.
And thanks to GeoHotz for letting me be able to see a glimpse of what this new hardware can do.
This jailbreak works fine but when I unlock with ulteasnow I get service but when I try to make a call it crashes and I also don't get wifi , so I cannot make any calls on tmobile
Everything works more then perfect. I've never seen so nice jailbreak...w/o IPSW, w/o restore and etc. Just one small executable - less then 400K.
10X Geohot, I hope You will continue to make so genius iPhone hacks.
Regards,
Just keep looking and wait. He just wants to be the first to say he jailbroke the 3GS. Props to you. Personally, cydia with no winterboard is like peanut butter with no jelly. I wouldnt be all that excited nor am I. I just wouldnt get it without both. Sux having a stock Iphone though
It's called "Patience" people.. I don't believe in going after the quickest fix.. This program is still buggy as hell, and the most popular of cydia apps (winterboard) isn't even 3GS compatible yet.. I personally am going to wait for Dev-team to release a jailbreak, and pop my virgin iPhone's cherry ;-) haha
And no, its not going to take six months, so stop shitting on Dev-Team, they are the ones who made this all possible.
Im just learning that Geohots Jailbreak will not ACTIVATE an iPhone, so even if I unlock with Ultrasnow, I cant use a non ATT phone on Tmobile USA..
the only info I have to do an activation so far is this (Im waiting for a complete solution such as an iClarified tutorial):
Quick Question, am i able to jailbreak a friend's iPhone even though its not registered under my iTunes?

Here we go :
1) lockdownd
download this file, save it somewhere, where you will find it again
2) google for iphonebrowser, download as well
3) connect your jailbroken iphone 3gs to your pc
4) open iphone browser and navigate to /usr/libexec
5) look for lockdownd and right klick it
6) klick replace file and pick the file you downloaded before
7) Reboot
It took some seconds before my iphone legt emergency screen after the first reboot... so be patient
everything works perfectly the first time with rc1 and rc2 for me.. here's what i did..
1. latest itunes.
2. leave itunes running
3. run purplera1n rc2
4. wait........
5. run freeze..
5. restart
6.. enjoy!!!
Its still just a buggy as the previous revision.... its supposed to work on vista but the phone gets stuck on waiting to reboot, think i will wait for the DevTeam because i can not be bothered to keep restoring.....
Seems to be some conflicts with itunes, i had to close it for the phone to reboot, once i did that it loaded up and i had freeze!!, also my phone wont charge with itunes open? still its really buggy and i couldn't get it working on vista,
Well i have finally got it working so its all ok at the min, terminal now works properly and so does ssh so im pretty happy :P, also i think 3.1 is expected later this month..
Someone asked yesterday and another tried it out with Fusion so it should work with parallels, and again remember if it gets stuck in recovery mode. Close prple rn, and then unplug your iphone and then plug it bak in open Rain again and run it once again. Should work
