China Unicom Confirms iPhone Deal With Apple

China Unicom confirmed it has reached a deal with Apple in its 2009 Interim Results.

On 28 August, the Company and Apple reached a three-year agreement for the Company to sell iPhone in China. The initial launch is expected to be in the fourth calendar quarter of 2009. This will provide users with brand new communication and information experience.

China Unicom Chairman and Chief Executive Chang Xiaobing has indicated that the company will offer two versions of the iPhone in the fourth quarter. China Unicom will offer subsidies to customers who buy the handset, lowering its price, but further details are not yet known.


Mr. Chang also indicated that the iPhone will be sold with its Wi-Fi Internet function disabled, which is required by Chinese regulations.
