Apple to Release 4-inch iPhone in Early 2016, Boost iPhone 7 Plus to 3GB of RAM?

Apple is reportedly planning to release a 4-inch iPhone in early 2016, according KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The analyst, who is often accurate, says the device "resembles an upgraded iPhone 5s" and may have an A9 processor.

As there is still demand for a 4-inch iPhone, we believe Apple will upgrade this product line. Because the iPhone 5s is more popular than the iPhone 5c, we think Apple is likely to launch an upgraded iPhone 5s. We predict Apple will mass-produce this new 4-inch iPhone in 1H16 with metal casings. In order to make the current iOS 9 or next-generation iOS 10 run smoothly, Apple may adopt an A9 chip for this new phone.

Kuo says the new iPhone won't have 3D Touch support. Apple is projected to ship 20-30 million units of the device in 2016.

Additionally, Kuo says Apple will upgrade the iPhone 7 to a new A10 chip with improved performance. Interestingly, the company may further distinguish between the 7 and 7 Plus models by equipping the 7 Plus with 3GB of RAM and leaving the 7 with 2GB.

Foxconn is said to be the exclusive supplier of the 4-inch iPhone with TSMC exclusively providing A9 chips for the phone and A10 chips for the iPhone 7.

Too late, Apple. I would have bought this 6 months ago. I've had Apple products since 1998, with a beige G3 tower. I had the 1st generation iPod, and snapped up the iPhone as soon as possible. Then, earlier this year, I was in the market for a new phone, but the iPhone 6 was too big. I ended up with an Xperia Z3 Compact. Same size screen as the iPhone 6, but actual size the same as the iPhone 5. Now, I've gotten so used to the freedom of Android I'm not sure if I can go back to iOS

Had been an iPhone user for the last 6 years. Was waiting for a smaller phone but now finally switched to Android. There are many things i miss since i had got use to iOS. But couldn't wait any further..

It's never too late. iOS works with hardware and software together to take advantage of how the OS works with all the performance. Think of all that long wait that will pay off for this if it were to happen. To tell you the truth though, my first time with android was also the last compared to when I first used iPad one and mind blows me how it still works compared to galaxy tab.

Too late because I now prefer Android to iOS. To the point where I'll also be replacing my iPad with a Z4 tablet next month. I was iOS through and through, and would never have even tried Android before. Just couldn't stand the size of the iPhone 6

If iPhones had more screen and less front bezel like the galaxy does, it would be considered a style copy of the Galaxy, but no. Not everything it laid out like most of the galaxy's parts. Look at the audio jack and the antenna lines for example. The 6s can be clearly used in one hand, but that choice did Apple have to attempt to keep the one hand use, plus tell that to the people who have asked for it.

I think they dropped the ball with losing the 5c yes everyone hates it but it is ideal as a teenager - get you off the android roller coaster phone. They really need a coat effective way to join people to the apple Eco system..

Or they did it just one time only to make iPhone cheapest but powerful enough to enjoy. That was the whole point of the 5c which did outsell the s4 in most areas, but if there was a 6c/7c/etc. now it would look ugly and slightly more expensive than the 5c. That's why it's not continued.

Should this alleged 4" device become a reality, will the rear camera lens protrude as well ?

Finally, a refreshed 4-inch iPhone. I just hope it isn't too thin if it's going to be released around iPhone 7.

It would be nice if the 4-inch iphone has the 3d touch capability. I mean, that is what the new iphone line is all about right?

I would prefer if they release even smaller iPhone - how about going all the way into designing iPhone Nano? All others got carried away with having massive screens but there is def demand for nice sleek, smart phone that doesn't need man bag to carry and Hulk Hogan hand to operate. Notifications and quick checks via Apple Watch and the urgent shit with iPhone Nano. Success!
