Siri Comes Through in an Emergency

Despite a completely smashed iPhone with a disconnected LCD, Siri was able help one son make an emergency call to his father from the ER.

In a post on Medium, David House describes receiving a strange call that he initially believed was a butt dial.

Earlier this evening I got a call from my son, I could hear voices in the background so I just thought he had butt dialed me. I called back, planning to ask my son what his butt wanted. No answer. Strange. A few minutes later he called again. He couldn’t hear me, but I could hear him. He said “I’m not sure if you can hear me, but I’m at Kennestone Hospital ER”.

House's son had been in a car accident and he couldn't remember anyone's phone number. He was desperately trying to contact someone from the hospital.

He grabbed the phone with no screen, then he pressed the home button. He felt it try to vibrate and just said “Call Dad”. After what seemed like minutes, he heard “Calling Dad”. Siri never sounded so good. That is the call I got where I could hear him. Siri worked. The iPhone microphone worked. Amazing.

His son was beat up pretty badly and needed numerous stitches to his face; however, he came out of the accident relatively unharmed.

I would guss if someone got in car accident with head injury. I would assume many would not remember a phone number. I feel off bike and had staples in my head. I still don't remember much of it three years latter. It would be very easy not to remember a phone number for sometime after a head injury.

This is why people should always memorize phone numbers ....

In a moment of shock, he might have forgot his number. But I do agree with what you're saying.
