Apple to Unveil Massive iPhone Redesign in 2017 Featuring Edge-to-Edge Display With Embedded Touch ID, Camera, and Speaker?

Well respected Apple blogger John Gruber says he's heard that Apple is planning a massive redesign to the iPhone in 2017.

In the most recent episode of 'The Talk Show', Gruber says he heard 'scuttlebutt' suggesting that the iPhone planned for release in 2017 will feature an edge-to-edge display that has no bezels on the top and bottom. Additionally, the front camera, Touch ID, speaker, and other sensors will apparently be embedded into the display.

I think next year's phone, the 2017 model, the one that will come out in September of 2017. What I have heard -- now this is not really from the rumor mill but just scuttlebutt that I've heard -- is that it will be an all-new form factor.

And there have been some rumors, I guess, but what I'm saying is that I've heard this independently and it is completely getting rid of the chin and forehead of the phone. The entire face will be the display. And the Touch ID sensor will be somehow embedded in the display. The front-facing camera will somehow be embedded in the display. The speaker, everything. All the sensors will somehow be behind the display.

What I don't know... I have no idea, but whether that means that they're going to shrink the actual thing in your hand to fit the screen sizes we already have, or whether they're going to grow the screens to fit the devices we're already used to holding... I don't know.

This isn't the first time we've heard that Apple will save its big redesign for the 2017 iPhone. The company has long been rumored to be moving to a flexible OLED display which would make an edge-to-edge display a possibility.

By dropping the bezels Apple could even move to larger display while making the device smaller.

Other rumors have Apple moving to an all glass design with real wireless charging capabilities.

Apple has been working on integrating Touch ID into the display for some time and it has filed patents on hiding a camera behind a display. We'd definitely love to see an iPhone that is one big display. Let us know what you think in the comments!
