Apple is holding back funding for the GOP's 2016 presidential convention over statements made by Donald Trump, reports Politico. Trump has criticized Apple for making its devices in China and for resisting a request from the FBI to unlock the San Bernardino shooter's iPhone.
Apple has told Republican leaders it will not provide funding or other support for the party’s 2016 presidential convention, as it's done in the past, citing Donald Trump’s controversial comments about women, immigrants and minorities.
Facebook, Google, and Microsoft have all promised some support to the event which will be held in Cleveland next month. Typically large tech firms contribute equally to both parties, however, Apple won't be offering tech or cash support.
When asked to comment on the report, a GOP spokeswoman said: "We are working with a variety of major tech partners who are focused on being part of the American political process."

Trump won his nomination fair and square. Get your facts straight.

Trump DID win the nomination fair and square. But (1) too many people don't realise that the parties are just private "clubs", they're not actually part of the government, and (2) the Electoral College might have made sense when it was created, but now a direct popular vote would be more fair and appropriate. Mind you, I think a good portion of the electorate are morons and it scares me that they can vote, but that doesn't change the fact that people should elect their representatives directly, and that a system which allows the College to elect a president which did not actually receive the most votes is undemocratic.

Fortunately, you do not make the rules. You have no idea what I do or don't do, but certainly expressing a clear opinion that hopefully makes people think rather than just react is better than just telling people to shut up and leave. This is not about winning an argument. I'm ok with leaders I don't agree with being elected. What worries me is how many people are allowing themselves to being manipulated by both sides and reacting emotionally, rather than investing some time and thought into the real issues. The gut is overrated, and the brain is underused.

Well if you think that you can make a difference by thinking alone then good luck to you. At least for the smart ones who know better that they can't make a difference, they can leave and look for a better life elsewhere.

All tech companies should pull funding to both parties. Politics is such drain on the economy and resources.

I'm no fan of Trump, but Hillary is far worse. Apple should pull funding for the DNC to be fair.
