Apple Orders Drama Series From La La Land Director/Writer Damien Chazelle

Apple has placed a straight-to-series order for a new drama from filmmaker Damien Chazelle, reports Variety.

Chazelle will write and direct every episode of the series and serve as executive producer. It will also be executive produced by Jordan Horowitz (Original Headquarters) and Fred Berger (Automatik Entertainment). Media Rights Capital is the studio.

A Harvard graduate, Chazelle is best known for writing and directing Whiplash and La La Land. Whiplash received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. La La Land won all seven of its Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Director and Best Screenplay. [W]

Apple has been busy putting together a serious lineup of shows. It reportedly ordered ten episodes of 'Home', a docuseries that offers viewers a look inside the world's most extraordinary homes. It's said to be developing a new original drama series entitled, "Are You Sleeping", starring Octavia Spencer. The company has also reached a deal with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television and Comcast's NBCUniversal television production unit to make new episodes of 'Amazing Stories', a science fiction and horror anthology series that ran in the 1980s. Apple won a multiple outlet bidding war for a morning show drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. It landed a 10-episode comedy series starring Kristen Wiig that is inspired by Curtis Sittenfeld's upcoming short story collection,You Think It, I'll Say It, and it's in a
bidding war with HBO for a new J.J. Abrams sci-fi drama series.
