Geohot Announces an Untethered Jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS, iPod touch, iPad

Geohot has announced an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G, 3G, and possibly the iPad!

The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models(ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too.

Don't ask about a release date. You won't make it happen any sooner.


We will post more information as it becomes available. Take a look at the video below for a demonstration!

The reason they dont release now is: Apple released a minor update (3.1.3) the hackers warn people not to update (people do) and then stuck, but apple only release minor update before major 1s to see if the hackers find any exploits that apple can later fix before releasing the major update, SO: the hackers keep hold of the exploits for the minor updates, hope that apple dont find these exploits then when apple release the major update (4.0 in our case) then the hackers work on the jailbreak using the exploit previously found for the earlier version. Voila new firmware jailbroken along with the new iphone 4g (possibly ipad. Cannot explain any better than im afraid

The video is a fake, he tries to make people donate $ to his "cause" but the thing is, there is pixel displacement.. you can see it yourselves!

yeah if you look that was an itouch the head phone jack is on the bottom and also the sleep button is on the right side the video has no proof what os is running

Thats not an iphone is an ipt3 (ipod touch 3 generation) and I know because it used voice control. I think he is doing a great job for all of us. Im thankful!!!!

Does this mean untethered jailbreak for all firmware (including 3.1.3 on baseband 5.12.01). If yes then this is the best news in months. How soon it is expected? Any word on unlocking 3.1.3 on 5.12.01 baseband. Please reply. Thanks.

that means nothing, have you thought it may be an earlier version firmware which is jailbroken and earlier versions werent tethered jailbreaks. you dont see the firmware version beforehand

gustavo Leon Madrigal: LOL the simple matter is, if geohot thought we copied him, he'd be the first to call us out on that. As much as you'd like there to be polarization between developers (you know, all of us that are giving you all of this for free), there is not. Nothing will be released for 3.1.3, per agreement between all of those developers you think are fighting each other.
